Handpiece repairs can be very costly, so it is very important that your handpieces be maintained on a daily basis to prolong the life of your bearings. HPS One Step Autoclavable Lubricant can be used as both a lubricant and a cleaner for daily maintenance.
HPS One Step is a high grade autoclavable mineral oil with rust inhibitors that greatly simplifies the lubrication process and only needs to be applied before sterilization. This simple procedure is possible because the lubricant will not break down (jell, crystallize, or turn to powder etc.) up to 400 degrees during sterilization.
HPS One Step is clear, tasteless, odorless: a completely unobtrusive lubricant. It is so safe it is used in baby products and the food industry, but effective enough to contain rust and corrosion inhibitors. This lubricant can be used on both highspeed and slowspeed handpieces, as well as, all attachments.
For dental use, we recommend the following use of HPS One Step as a cleaner/lubricant.
As a Cleaner
After a patient, lubricate your handpiece with 2 or 3 drops of HPS One Step, run the handpiece facing a sheet of white paper towel. If lubricant spray is dark in color, continue to relube and flush until the spray is clear in color. The dark color indicates the bearings are dirty with debris (sign of disintegration of black bearing cage). Keeping the bearings clean will greatly prolong their life.
As a Lubricant
Lubricate your handpiece with 2 or 3 drops of HPS One Step, run for approximately 2 or 3 seconds to ensure lubricant surrounds the bearings, then sterilize. Lubricating bearings will protect them from drying out from the heat during sterilization. You do not have to relubricate after sterilization.
Dental Lab/Hobbiest Handpiece Lubricant
We also have a similar lubricant for Dental Lab/Hobbyist handpieces with the only difference being that it does not have to have the capability of withstanding sterilization, therefore, it is less expensive.
